Vanessa Sims
Vanessa Sims
Vanessa is the wife of Reverend Anthony L. Sims of Denton, Texas, a mother of three sons and a grandmother.  Her parents are Mary Lyles and Charlie Hall.

Her hunger for knowledge and desire for self improvement led her to pursue higher education. Vanessa extended her education by obtaining an Associate in Arts from Weatherford Junior College, Bachelor of Science from Tarleton State University, and a Certificate of Theological Studies from Brite Divinity School-Texas Christian University.

In the summer of 2003, Vanessa studied “Practical Theology” at Wesleyan Theological College, University of Cambridge, Cambridge, England.  This experience confirmed her call to ministry, increased her faith, and served as a spring board for her ministry to women, children and people living on the margins. Prior to this experience, and for almost three decades, Vanessa has been actively involved in the church and in the community. She has held numerous leadership positions. She served as a consultant for the Tarrant County Juvenile Drug Court, and the Tarrant County Domestic Violence Court. She has received awards such as Counselor of the Year, Top Public Servant and Top Adopter. She also has ongoing roles as the keynote speaker for church and civic organizations.

Her passion for helping others, led her to organize community forums and programs such as “Christian Uniting to Heal Our City” and “HIV/AIDS-The Silent Killer in African American Families.” She has also developed training programs; her favorites are “Life Skills for Daily Living” and “Leadership –Building on the Past by Envisioning a Better Future.”  Her favorite written sermon title is “Wrote off by Man - Written in By God” and her favorite written public speech is “Be Courageous in the Midst of Adversity.”  Within the next year, Vanessa hopes to publish her book, “A Journey to Womanhood.”
